How to Use the AI Features to Optimize Your Report

4 min read · Updated July 2026

Steer the Executive Summary With Guidance Notes

The Executive Summary isn't a one-shot AI output — you can redirect it. Open the Executive Summary panel and you'll find a guidance field (up to 400 characters) below the Generate/Regenerate button. Use it to tell the AI what to emphasize: "lead with the NYT placement," "make it punchier," "focus on the product launch angle, not the funding news."

Click Generate with AI the first time; once a summary exists, the same button becomes Regenerate Summary, so you can iterate — write a note, regenerate, read it, adjust the note, regenerate again. The button stays disabled until there's at least one coverage item in the report, since the AI is summarizing your actual placements, not writing generic copy.

Generate and Edit the Hero Image

On the cover slide, the ✨ AI generate control opens a prompt field (up to 1,200 characters) where you describe the image you want instead of using your default coverage screenshot as the hero. Write a prompt, click Regenerate, and it swaps in.

If a new version doesn't work, click Revert to previous — it appears once you've generated at least one image, and it puts back exactly what was there before. Nothing is destructive; you can go back and forth between versions while you dial in the prompt.

Let AI Surface the Best Quotes

Each coverage item you add gets AI-extracted quotes pulled from the article text automatically — these populate the quotes/journalist-view slides without any manual work. If a quote isn't the one you'd have picked, or reads awkwardly out of context, you can edit it inline like any other text on the canvas, or remove it entirely if it doesn't earn its place in the deck.

What's Automatic vs. What You Control

Some AI work in PRCharter happens automatically and isn't something you steer directly from the editor — screenshot capture, quote extraction from article text, and AI-citation tracking all run as part of building the report. What you can actively direct are the three tools above: the exec summary's guidance notes, the hero image prompt, and manual edits to any AI-extracted quote.

Tip: If a screenshot looks wrong, use the manual retry option on that item's thumbnail — screenshot quality isn't something the exec summary or hero-image tools touch.
